I believe it was more than a decade ago Urbana hired a consulting firm to generate Ideas for the future Urbana. If I recall correctly a/the central project was rejuvenation of Boneyard Creek. Two plans [or more] were submitted. One put the emphasis on Race north of Griggs and the other incorporating the Boneyard north of Main and west of Race. I lobbied, not hard enough, for incorporating Main. While the Griggs location was nicely done I believe we could have gotten more “bang for our buck” with the Main effort, although I believe it was more expensive. This our chance to make downtown Urbana more beautiful, more economically viable, more cohesive and put us on par with other cities that embrace a similar size water feature to its great advantage e.g. San Luis Obispo. I assume that “Main Street” plan still exists somewhere. We don’t need to pay another consultant. Let’s use this opportunity [ImagineUrbana] to imagine a beautiful creekside Urbana. Thank you.
